On the main wall of the central hall hangs the most famous portrait of Andrea Palladio, who, in his time, built palaces and villas for the Valmarana family. The portrait is attributed to the painter Giovanbattista Maganza (circa 1513 – 1586).
The attribution is not certain, but the portrait – which has always remained in the family – is of fundamental importance for giving a face to the most renowned architect of the last five centuries. The painting, with its admirable frame, is one of the highlights of the exhibition “The Mystery of the Face” (Palladio Museum, Vicenza, December 2016/June 2017).
In October 2014, the portrait was stolen, but thanks to the diligent work of the State Police, it was returned to its place at the entrance of the Foresteria in January 2015.
